Organ Donation Drive
Mithibai College becomes first college to conduct organ donation drive
Mumbai: SVKM’s Mithibai College on quite a roll, just recently having made the headlines after receiving an ‘A’ grade and a CGPA of 3.57 by the NAAC. Now, this prestigious institute continues to hit all the right notes when it organized an organ donation awareness programme on the 25th of February, 2016. The Department of Economics, mainly T.Y.B.Com in association with Shrimad Rajchandra conducted this awareness drive.
Dr. Doshi and Dr. Mehta informed the students and faculty alike on how to go about donating your organs, and how valuable such a pledge can be. This was followed by quite an animated question & answer session. Mithibai College is the first in the Mumbai University to have conducted such an awareness drive.
Spread over 3 batches, above 450 students pledged to donate their organs after death. Principal Dr. Rajpal Shripat Hande himself pledged to donate not only his organs but entire body, along with 3 of his family members also pledged the same. Dr Rajpal Shripat Hande believes that “every citizen should take part in this pious donation , as it is our social responsibility when we take birth in society , we become property of the society so we should give back to the society and our organ will be in use to the needy people”. Over 500 forms were collected from Mithibai College itself, which seems pale in comparison to the dire need for healthy viable organs. In India, a meager 0.01% people donate their organs. A highly commendable act by Mithibai College, one certainly hopes that more institutes and individuals follow, helping create a small but surely significant difference in society.
By being an Organ Donor, you can save the lives of up to 8 individuals and save or improve the lives of up to 50 people by donating tissues and eyes.
