Eligibility criteria for the Master of Arts Mass Communication
The basic eligibility for admission to MA in Mass Communication is a Bachelor degree in any stream of minimum 3 years duration. It is not required to have a Bachelor degree in Journalism or Mass communication but it surely gives an edge.
There is no restriction with respect to stream of education in graduation. However, certain universities do not accept application from students who belong to Engineering or Medical streams.
Most of the universities do not follow age restriction but there are some universities which do not allow any candidate above 30 years of age.
Work experience is not compulsory but universities do prefer students with prior work experience in the field of media and journalism.
The entrance test has two sections – Objective and Subjective. The entrance test is designed in a way to test language and creative writing skills of a candidate. The topics for entrance test can be best summed as follows:
- Reading and Language Comprehension
- Logical and Analytical Reasoning
- Mass Communication and Media Aptitude
- General Knowledge & Current Affairs
After the entrance test, students are shortlisted for Group Discussion and Personal interview round. Based on the cumulative performance in the entrance test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview, admission is offered to a select few students.
There are certain institutes like the Doon Business School which do not conduct Entrance Exam and admit students on the basis of marks scored in graduation and their performance in a Personal Interview.
